APHIAplus KAMILI Project

Project Description

Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team (AMURT) has been a local implementing partner for APHIA plus Kamili project. In 2017, AMURT was responsible for implementing APHIA PLUS activities in the following areas; Thika west and East, Gatundu South, Kikuyu and Kiambu West and East Sub-Counties of the larger Kiambu County.

Working with a team of four (4) project officers, the project was providing care and support to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) while addressing social determinants of health, focusing on existing community structures and household approaches. Service delivery is carried out by community health volunteers on a need based.  Services are aligned to the MOPH roll out of GOK community strategy.

Under APHIA plus Kamili, AMURT was obligated to carry out service delivery to 6000 OVC focusing on the seven Key service delivery areas of Education, Health Care, Food and Nutrition, Shelter, Legal Services and Psychosocial Support and household economic strengthening.

Project Objectives

All project activities are guided by the objectives below and guided by a child status Index Survey.

  • To provide 6000 orphans and vulnerable children within Kiambu county with basic care and support package services, in the areas of education, health, shelter, food and nutrition, psychosocial support, protection.
  • Provide household economic strengthening of the targeted orphans and vulnerable

Children.

These services provided based on needs determined through a child status index survey.

Geographical coverage

AMURT was responsible for implementing APHIA PLUS activities in Kiambu county, specifically covering the following areas; Thika west and East, Gatundu South, Kikuyu and Kiambu West and East Sub-Counties of the larger Kiambu County.
